Why We Built a Privacy-First Timesheet
It seems that much of the time tracking software available today focuses heavily on monitoring features. From capturing random screenshots to tracking active applications, the standard for "productivity tracking" has shifted increasingly toward surveillance.
We take a different philosophical approach.
Trust is a Feature, Not a Bug
When organizations rely too heavily on monitoring their teams, it can inadvertently signal a lack of trust. Surveillance-heavy software often creates an adversarial dynamic, which can increase anxiety, reduce morale, and ultimately lead to higher turnover in remote environments.
We built VeloTime because we wanted a tool for our own agency that simply answered the core operational question: Where did our time go this week? We didn't need granular data on how many times someone moved their mouse on a Tuesday afternoon. We just needed accurate, high-level data to measure project profitability and billable utilization.
The Keyboard-First Approach
Instead of relying on background trackers, we focused on making manual entry as frictionless as possible. When a timesheet is tedious to fill out, professionals naturally procrastinate. However, if the process is as fast and familiar as navigating a spreadsheet, they are much more likely to complete it on time.
By eliminating the friction of time entry, we found that compliance skyrocketed naturally. And when compliance is consistently high, the need for stringent oversight simply disappears.

Most agencies don’t realize a client retainer has burned through 90% of its hours until the 25th of the month. By deploying mid-month burn velocity indicators, operations teams prevent uncompensated over-servicing.
